The Semenawa Study Group
Our Semenawa Study Group operates privately, by invitation only, in order to maintain a consistent level of skill and group cohesion. Workshop content and presenters are selected through group discussion. The study weekends are personally announced to the group members and added below as they arise.
The content is designed for:
instructors and assistants who support others in learning and wish to elevate their demonstration work;
advanced riggers and models who want to refine the quality of their skills;
experienced practitioners who already tie with clean fundamentals, but wish to deepen their sensitivity within the Semenawa style.
How this group came to life
Over the years, we have welcomed a variety of semenawa instructors to the studio, including Naka-sensei & Iroha Suzuki, Chiaki, Naoko, Kirigami & Tenshiko, Docvale, Kurogami & Shiawaze.
In February of this year, we had a transformative experience during a private weekend with the exceptional Kirigami & Tenshiko. While many of us were already acquainted, the 2+ level workshop allowed us to connect more deeply. We discovered that we were not only well-matched in terms of technical skill, but also shared a strong motivation to grow through this particular study format. That inspiring weekend underlined the foundation for the Semenawa Study Group—a collective committed to advancing in this nuanced style together.
