A WEEKEND WITH AKIRA NAKA & IROHA SHIZUKI

Akira Naka has his own style of Kinbaku, known as Naka-ryu, which emphasizes aesthetics and semenawa.
A fundamental philosophy in Naka Style is that "rope is free." It is essential to honor this philosophy by avoiding the reduction of this beautiful style into shapes sequences and formulistic thinking.
Naka-san emphasizes that for him, Kinbaku is very individual. Each person has their own approach to it and their own point of view.

PREREQUISITES

This workshop is for an advanced audience, and therefore all basics such as gotes, suspension lines, line management, body handling and position handling is highly expected to be grounded.

Bottoms should be comfortable being tied in a hands-bound-behind-back position, and both partners should be aware of any potential nerve impingement, circulation, or shoulder issues that could arise for the person in rope.

Considering the gote: The rigger must be able to tie a solid tradtional gote, preferably a Naka style 2 rope gote.

OBSERVER SPOTS

We are offering observer tickets, which allow participants to comfortably watch the workshop via live internal streaming from the salon located one floor below.

ABOUT Akira NAKA

Born in 1959, Akira Naka became aware of the world of Japanese bondage at the age of 30, when he discovered a study class (commonly known as ‘Kinbiken’) of top master Chimuo Nureki. From the very first moment of watching the bondage master at work, he found himself drawn in deeper and deeper by the fascinating sensuality until he had an epiphany – ‘This is what I want to dedicate my life to.’

He enrolled immediately. Ever since that fateful day, Naka has been dedicating himself to follow the path of master Nureki. He’s committed himself to the precision and accuracy of this formal, tightly knit hanging style of bondage. Additionally, Naka has been creating his own unique offshoot, entitled ‘Naka-Ryu’ style, which is intended to break new ground in the bonding of beauty and torture. For this reason, he calls it ‘Aesthetic Torture Bondage’ (MURU-ZOU). In March of 2008, he founded the ‘MURU-ZOU Group – Akira Naka Bondage Association’, which has been continually challenging, deepening, and evolving the possibilities of bondage through it’s engaging live shows. Naka often works in film, collaborating with famed director Tojiro of Dogma Label and the legendary Cinemagic Film Company. Artistically, he works on the ‘Nawa-Etsu’ series with the ’MURU-ZOU’ group while in the world of photography he works with famed bondage photographer Norio Sugiura.

Starting in 2013, Naka has expanded across the world, performing live and offering workshops in the USA, Russia, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and more. It’s now becoming apparent that the bondage of Naka Akira and his ’Naka Style’ is spreading and influencing bondage masters across the globe.

ABOUT IROHA Shizuki

Born in 1981, Iroha Shizuki developed an interest in kinbaku at the age of 29 after landing a role in a kinbaku AV production and learning about the existence of kinbaku. Before that, she had never even heard the word kinbaku.

In 2011, she contacted Naka-san, and they soon met. Iroha was tied for the first time by Naka-san at his Nawa-Naka-Kai, marking the beginning of her Kinbaku modeling career. Initially, she thought this might be the world she wished to be part of, but after a photo shoot with Norio Sugiura-san soon after, her feelings solidified into a certainty: “This is the world I want to be part of!” She then decided to make a living by working in the Kinbaku world.

Iroha has immense trust in Naka and gives herself to him with unconditional devotion. She endures Naka-san’s ties in an extraordinary way and is always willing to express what that means to her in an open and vulnerable manner that commands great respect. She is a great believer in clear and open communication. Naka and Iroha have been inseparable since 2011 and continue to create beautiful moments together to this day.

A Monday with Akira Naka & Iroha Shizuki

Introduction to Naka Style

Meet Akira Naka and Iroha Shizuki, who will introduce us to the Naka Style philosophy.

A fundamental philosophy in Naka Style is that "rope is free." It is essential to honor this philosophy by avoiding the reduction of this beautiful style into shapes sequences and formulistic thinking.
Rather than highly advanced sequences and techniques, expect fundamental conceptual exercises designed to bring the Naka Style philosophy to life in an uncomplicated and accessible way.
Naka-san emphasizes that for him, Kinbaku is very individual. Each person has their own approach to it and their own point of view.

Looking to be inspired? Join us on this exceptional Monday in May for an incredible workshop.

INTRODUCTION TO YUKIMURA-RYU I

DAY 1

On the first day, participants will learn about the fundamental philosophical approaches of Yukimura Haruki's tying style. Ropeknight has further developed this  style for the Western spirit, making his own approaches, building blocks and nuance accessible and easy to learn for both beginners and experienced tying couples.

Terms such as Semenawa and Aibunawa will be analyzed, and participants will learn their first basic ties.

The more experienced the tying partner, the more they can focus on the nuances of working with the model.

The introduction of a special mindset, as well as possible approaches and behaviors in the interaction between partners, plays a significant role.

There will be ample opportunity for the further development of both partners' personas and their shared communication.

DAY 2

The ties, techniques and approaches developed on the first day will be used to explore more complex ties. The primary focus will be on evoking emotions through the how of implementing the ties.

FOR WHO?

This workshop is aimed at bondage couples who want to explore the world of Yukimura Ryu together. Since this is ultimately a world of eroticism, there should be no fear of intimacy between the bondage partners.

The workshop can be visited by beginners to advanced participants.

WHAT TO BRING?

  • Models are encouraged to wear clothing with potential for exposure (e.g. no leggings and tights)

  • Approx. 5 ropes are required - recommended rope: 7 to 8m long, 4-5mm in diameter.

  • Bring a blanket to use as a base.

SCHEDULE

Saturday 14/06

  • Doors open: 09h30

  • Workshop begins: 10h00

  • Workshop concludes: 17h00

Sunday 15/06

ABOUT ROPEKNIGHT

Michael Ropeknight had the opportunity to experience and learn different styles of Shibari during his various trips to Japan.

He studied under several well-known Bakushi and became an official student of Osada Steve, who shortly thereafter introduced him to Yukimura Haruki Sensei.

In the following years, Michael spent a great deal of time with these two masters, studying their techniques and philosophies.

Yukimura Sensei and Osada Steve described his emotional abilities in dealing with his Shibari partners and his use of energetic components (Ki) as extraordinary. Not only because of these exceptional strengths did both masters honor him by appointing him as an official instructor of their styles.

In 2024, Michael decided to retire as an official Osada-Ryu instructor, as physical limitations no longer allowed him to teach suspensions at the highest level. Since then, he has focused on his core competencies: deepened communication and personal development for all participants involved in rope. With this focus on Ropeknight’s Yukimura-Ryu, Michael brings valuable insights into the emotional and mental connection between partners, thus fostering the development of a mindful and conscious dynamic in Shibari.

In recent years, Ropeknight has further developed the Yukimura-Ryu within a Western mindset, making it a cornerstone in the training of rope enthusiasts around the world by incorporating his unique strengths and understanding of the human soul—just as Yukimura Sensei had expected of him.

ABOUT CandyDandelion

CandyDandelion (alter ego Alice in Nawaland on Instagram) was introduced to the art of shibari in 2018 and quickly became enamored with Al-Walthery's skillful sadistic ties. Their partnership has continued to this day, with CandyDandelion teaching alongside Al-Walthery in Liège and Brussels.

She has been featured on stage by renowned riggers including Yoi Yoshida, Marc Akuaku, and Tati Limati and performing together with Al-Walthery at Onawa Asobi festival in Shibari Lounge in 2024.

In 2023, she joins Studio TIEY. She becomes the teaching model for Michael Ropeknight, known for his empathetic, intuitive, and unique approach, and performs with Yagami Ren, who explores the duality between pleasure and pain. She also headlines with Naka sensei in his 2025 Nawa Kai at the studio.

She is highly sought after as a model for both photography and public performances, known for her pure and expressive emotions that she exudes during the intense connections she creates as an ukete. She is open to exploring various contexts, such as nature, underwater settings, abandoned places, workshops, and public sessions.
