HASHIRA TRADITIONAL STYLE

Hashira is an iconic element in Japanese bondage pictures and movies.
Practitioners all over Europe are fascinated by the old school aesthetics of a body tied to a wooden post. The fascination of the psychological archetypes associated with it, is also undeniable. At the same time, most people tend to reproduce harnesses and shapes to improve rope and body handling skills, as well as their ability to bind an aesthetically pleasing tie. While this endeavor is necessary to enjoy a satisfying session, it is also worth exploring the possibilities of simple ties offering more space for playful sessions.

During this workshop we will differentiate the exercises, on the one hand trying to improve riggers’ hard skills, with a special attention to rope and body handling, using technical ties and formal shapes; on the other hand we will also propose ties that can actually be used in elegantly crude ways.

Most exercises will be full suspensions, but also some partials will be taught.

During this workshop we will train:

  • Predicament build up and maintenance

  • Transitions in hashira ties

  • Adapting ties to session context requirements

  • Multiple lines management

  • Tension management

  • Joints manipulation, weight distribution

Depending on the level of participants, some ties will be varied and transformed into new shapes. Variations are didactically skill-oriented, and participants will improve rope and body handling while experimenting with new ties.

PREREQUISITES

Tops and bottoms:

  • Confidence in suspension sessions.

  • No prior experience with hashira is needed.

Tops:

  • Solid TK – any style: Understanding of its structure is important. A stemless gote will be used for the demonstrations. You can use your own TK but might have to adapt the ties accordingly.

  • Smooth and safe suspension lines management: The main risk associated with hashira is line entanglement, resulting in impossibility of fast bail out in case of emergency. It is crucial for every rigger to be fast and proficient in line management.

WHAT TO BRING?

  • A minimum of 12 jute or hemp ropes, 5 or 6mm diameter and 7-8 meters long.

  • We invite the participants to be dressed in the way they feel comfortable with while tying. However, as many exercises will also focus on aesthetics we invite bottoms to be dressed up with something they would feel at ease during a session.

INTRODUCTION TO YUKIMURA-RYU I

DAY 1

We learn basic philosophical approaches from Yukimura Haruki's bondage style. To do this, we analyze terms such as Semenawa and Aibunawa, learn the first basics of Yukimura Ryu and experience their application.

We will give space to the introduction of a special mindset as well as possible approaches and behaviors in dealing with the partners.

DAY 2

We use i.a. the patterns and procedures developed on the first day in order to use more complex "techniques". The main focus is on the generation of emotions in "how" we implement the bondage.

FOR WHO?

This workshop is aimed at bondage couples who want to explore the world of Yukimura Ryu together. Since this is ultimately a world of eroticism, there should be no fear of intimacy between the bondage partners.

The workshop can be visited by beginners to advanced participants.

WHAT TO BRING?

  • It makes sense for the model to wear clothing with "potential for exposure" (e.g. dress, no leggings, no tights).

  • Max. 7 ropes are required - recommended rope: 7 to 8 m

  • Bring your own blanket.

SCHEDULE

Saturday 5/10

  • Doors open: 09h30

  • Workshop begins: 10h00

  • Workshop concludes: 17h00

Sunday 6/10

  • Doors open: 09h30

ABOUT ROPEKNIGHT

Michael Ropeknight was able to experience and get to know different styles of Shibari on various trips to Japan. He studied with various well-known Bakushi before finally becoming an official student of Osada Steve. It was he who introduced him to Yukimura Haruki Sensei. In the following years Michael spent a lot of time with these two masters and studied their techniques and philosophies.

Yukimura Sensei and Osada Steve describe his emotional abilities in dealing with his shibari partners and his use of energetic components (Ki) as extraordinary. It was not only because of these special strengths that both masters honored him to teach their styles as an official instructor. His appointment as a licensed Osada Ryu instructor illustrates the development of this bondage style from a technical to a comprehensive teaching system that focuses on communication and the actual bondage partners.

Ropeknight combines the major bondage schools of Yukimura Ryu and Osada Ryu in an undogmatic way. Through his creative and powerful style, with a great deal of his emotional depth, he gives these styles an independent touch.
