Ren Yagami @StudioTIEY

We are honoured to announce that Ren Yagami will be visiting Studio TIEY again.

Ren Yagami is a Shibari master from the 'young generation'. He is an independent thinker who believes that no idea is too fundamental to be questioned and no rule too sacred to be broken or at least thoroughly tested.

Yagami’s tendency to test boundaries stems from his desire for innovation and change. His curious and active mind constantly pushes him in new and clever directions, keeping him busy exploring various ideas and perspectives to this day.

Thanks to this mindset, he has been able to deconstruct and rebuild concepts and methods from different fields. This resulted in Yagami-ryu, where the basics are merely tools and thinking outside the box is the norm.

"The limits of the imagination are the limits of the person."
~ Ren Yagami

During his July visit, Ren Yagami will show you ever more possibilities to inspire you on your rope journey.

Workshop SCHEDULE

Friday July 17th, 19h - 23h

THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF SENSUALITY AND SHIBARI

A deep-dive into the intimate side of Shibari!
Participants will learn how to cultivate mindfulness and presence while exploring the sensual aspects of rope play. Through hands-on demonstrations and guided exercises, you’ll gain practical tools to enhance intimacy, deepen connection with your partner, and express yourself confidently. This evening workshop emphasizes the importance of communication, emotional attunement, and the elegant interplay of tension and release.

The workshop is suitable for confident beginners to advanced participants, as all exercises focus on building intensity, rather than complicated tying techniques. The minimal prerequisites are single and double column tie, larks head, half hitch and munter hitch.

Saturday July 18th, 11h - 18h
Sunday July 19th, 11h - 18h

BALANCING SUSPENSION TECHNIQUES - THE TRIANGULAR METHOD AND TRANSITION TECHNIQUES

Starting from the ground, we will explore various methods to lift and move the model into the air, using clever body mechanics and without using excessive strength. When creating shapes mid-air, our focus is always on minimizing strain and ensuring a comfortable, pleasant, and blissful experience for the model. Riggers will work with the three-point principle and triangular techniques to master stable, fluid, and safe transitions. Building on this foundation, participants will study both typical and unconventional angles, exploring creative possibilities for dynamic and seamless movement.

Advanced Workshop Requirements for Riggers:

  • Strong rope tension skills

  • Confidence in constructing transitional ties

  • Openness to critical thinking and executing exercises accordingly

  • Rope style is irrelevant

Both partners should be aware of potential nerve impingement, circulation issues, or shoulder concerns that may arise.

Monday July 20th, 11h - 18h

EXAMPLES OF COMBINATIONS AND TRANSITIONS USING MINIMAL NUMBERS OF ROPES

Join Ren Yagami for a focused day of exploration, starting from the basics—not as limitations, but as tools to enable thinking outside the box. From this foundation, we will delve into various combinations and transitions, emphasizing the use of a minimal number of ropes. Participants will explore techniques across floorwork, semi-suspension, and full suspension variations. This workshop is perfect for those looking to improve their efficiency, expand their repertoire, and explore flowing transitions with minimal materials.

Intermediate Level Requirements:

  • Proficiency in basic bamboo suspensions

  • Familiarity with the boxtie/gote

  • Any tying style is welcome, though adaptations may be needed for specific techniques

Tuesday July 21st, 11h - 18h

YAGAMI STYLE BDSM - SHIBARI AND IMPACT PLAY

Discover how Ren Yagami integrates impact play seamlessly into his Shibari practice! In this one-day workshop, he will guide participants on how to safely and creatively increase intensity by combining rope and impact techniques. Both floorwork and suspension variations will be explored, offering tools to enhance connection, sensation, and flow.

Intermediate Level Requirements:

  • Proficiency in basic bamboo suspensions

  • Familiarity with the boxtie/gote

  • Any tying style is welcome, though adaptations may be needed for specific techniques

Live rope sessions

On Saturday, July 18th, Studio TIEY opens its doors for an evening of live rope sessions.

  • Doors open: 20h30

  • Doors close, start of first session: 21h00

Peter Etheros and Zaarah invite you into a slow, hypnotic dialogue between two people — a session that unfolds like a slightly perverted poem you don’t read, but feel.

Then the tatami becomes a place of transformation as Ren Yagami takes over, presenting two completely different ties with two different models. Expect contrasts: tension and softness, stillness and movement, ritual and play.

Come curious. Leave inspired.
Seats are limited. The imagination is not.

Guided Study Pass

We are offering a number of Guided Study Passes for Ren Yagami’s visit.

This track is designed for participants who are able to do suspension but want to focus on deep understanding on the advanced techniques and assisted practice, rather than continuous full execution. Guided Study participants attend the sat-sun-mon workshop and the live rope sessions, and join the practical segments that align with their experience.

Throughout the workshops, Peter Etheros will work closely with this group — helping adapt exercises and clarifying structure and safety considerations.

Many advanced techniques are best learned first by observing, analyzing, and discussing before attempting full execution. The Guided Study track allows you to follow the complete teaching process while building a solid foundation to integrate safely into your own practice.

Due to the individual attention required, only a limited number of Guided Study Passes are available.

OBSERVER SPOTS

We are offering observer tickets, which allow participants to comfortably watch the workshops via live internal streaming from the salon. Observers can access one tying spot with suspension point, which may be used among the observing participants. Additionally, observers will have the chance to ask questions during the Q&A session at the end of each workshop.

YUKIMURA-RYU II

This workshop builds on the content from "Ropeknights Yukimura Ryu I".

Participants will revisit familiar ties and deepen their understanding of these techniques. Along with learning new rope patterns, emphasis will be placed on the Japanese aesthetic of form. The focus will expand to include scenarios, personas, Ki (energy), and Kotobazeme (verbal techniques), allowing participants to explore the concept of "tension" on multiple levels. Once again, the primary goal is to evoke emotions through the how of tying.

Throughout the weekend, the understanding of both partners' roles will be further refined, with special focus on the importance of letting the ties have their effect as well as the actual tying actions. This dynamic becomes an integral part of the overall tying experience.

FOR WHO?

This workshop is aimed at bondage couples who have previously attended the "Ropeknights Yukimura Ryu I" workshop and are looking to delve deeper into the world of Yukimura Ryu and Michael Ropeknights approach. Since this is ultimately a world of eroticism, there should be no fear of intimacy between the bondage partners.

WHAT TO BRING?

  • Models are encouraged to wear clothing with potential for exposure (e.g. no leggings and tights)

  • Approx. 5-7 ropes are required - recommended rope: 7 to 8m long, 4-5mm in diameter.

  • Bring a blanket to use as a base.

ABOUT ROPEKNIGHT

Michael Ropeknight had the opportunity to experience and learn different styles of Shibari during his various trips to Japan.

He studied under several well-known Bakushi and became an official student of Osada Steve, who shortly thereafter introduced him to Yukimura Haruki Sensei.

In the following years, Michael spent a great deal of time with these two masters, studying their techniques and philosophies.

Yukimura Sensei and Osada Steve described his emotional abilities in dealing with his Shibari partners and his use of energetic components (Ki) as extraordinary. Not only because of these exceptional strengths did both masters honor him by appointing him as an official instructor of their styles.

In 2024, Michael decided to retire as an official Osada-Ryu instructor, as physical limitations no longer allowed him to teach suspensions at the highest level. Since then, he has focused on his core competencies: deepened communication and personal development for all participants involved in rope. With this focus on Ropeknight’s Yukimura-Ryu, Michael brings valuable insights into the emotional and mental connection between partners, thus fostering the development of a mindful and conscious dynamic in Shibari.

In recent years, Ropeknight has further developed the Yukimura-Ryu within a Western mindset, making it a cornerstone in the training of rope enthusiasts around the world by incorporating his unique strengths and understanding of the human soul—just as Yukimura Sensei had expected of him.

ABOUT CandyDandelion

CandyDandelion (alter ego Alice in Nawaland on Instagram) was introduced to the art of shibari in 2018 and quickly became enamored with Al-Walthery's skillful sadistic ties. Their partnership has continued to this day, with CandyDandelion teaching alongside Al-Walthery in Liège and Brussels.

She has been featured on stage by renowned riggers including Yoi Yoshida, Marc Akuaku, and Tati Limati and performing together with Al-Walthery at Onawa Asobi festival in Shibari Lounge in 2024.

In 2023, she joins Studio TIEY. She becomes the teaching model for Michael Ropeknight, known for his empathetic, intuitive, and unique approach, and performs with Yagami Ren, who explores the duality between pleasure and pain. She also headlines with Naka sensei in his 2025 Nawa Kai at the studio.

She is highly sought after as a model for both photography and public performances, known for her pure and expressive emotions that she exudes during the intense connections she creates as an ukete. She is open to exploring various contexts, such as nature, underwater settings, abandoned places, workshops, and public sessions.

Aesthetics of Uplines and Japanese interpretation of negative space

In this workshop we will analyse the aesthetics of suspension lines in Japanese bondage, focusing on how rope direction, tension, angles, and negative space contribute to the beauty and strength of iconic shapes.

Rather than treating suspension lines only as a technical tool, we will explore them as a visual and expressive element: how they frame the body, guide the eye, create balance or imbalance, and support the atmosphere of a tie. We will connect this study to traditional Japanese aesthetics and to the values of wabi-sabi, observing how asymmetry, imperfection, weight, emptiness, and restraint can shape the final image.

We will demonstrate how to manage suspension lines with attention to both safety and visual composition, showing how line placement and body mechanics affect the beauty, readability, and sustainability of the shapes we will explore.

PREREQUISITES

TOPS

  • Solid TK, any style

  • Safe and efficient upline management

  • Some experience with suspensions

  • Interest in refining line placement, tension, and visual composition

BOTTOMS

  • Feeling comfortable in a gote

  • Understanding the difference between comfortable and sustainable, and being willing to explore both

  • Nerve and circulation risk awareness and ability to self-control

SCHEDULE

FRIDAY 6/11

  • Doors open: 19h00

  • Workshop begins: 19h30

  • Workshop concludes: 23h30

ABOUT Kirigami & Tenshiko

Kirigami and Tenshiko are partners both in rope and in life.
They have been teaching and performing across Europe since 2012. In 2016, they founded School of Rope Milano, where they host weekly classes in traditional Japanese rope bondage for local students as well as international guests.

Their style is deeply rooted in classical Japanese Kinbaku, refined over the years through stage performances, private sessions, and photographic work. Alongside rope, their artistic path has been strongly influenced by the study of traditional Japanese arts — particularly the tea ceremony — which they continue to explore as part of their personal and creative development.

In recent years, their work has expanded beyond Europe. In 2023, they were invited to teach in Latin America and Australia, and began collaborating with Sugiura Norio Sensei on international workshops held in both Europe and Japan, as well as on a series of editorial projects, online and in print.

In 2025, Kirigami became the first non-resident of Japan to be invited to tie for Kinbaku Sajiki, the iconic photographic series curated by Sugiura Norio.

Weekend Study Group with Kirigami & Tenshiko

Advanced study of torsions for semenawa progressions and transitions

We will approach traditional semenawa through an advanced study of torsions, focusing on how they can be used to build progressions, using transitions as a tool for modulating emotional intensity within a session.

Torsion will be explored as one of the main elements through which pressure, exposure, resistance, and surrender can be shaped over time. Rather than treating each form as an isolated tie, we will look at how one position can lead into another, and how each transition can change the quality of the experience.

The study weekend will focus on how to create a gradual progression: when to increase the torsion, when to hold it, when to soften it, and when to redirect it into a new shape. These changes can create different emotional effects, from quiet tension to a more direct and demanding form of torment.

We will work with floorwork, partial suspensions, and suspensions, paying attention to how the body reacts when the tie evolves. The goal is not simply to make the position more difficult, but to understand how timing, restraint, rhythm, and small changes in posture can affect the intensity of the session.

Extensive shared feedback from the bottoms will be encouraged during the workshop, so that the technical choices can be connected to their actual physical and emotional experience.

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE

  • We will mostly use a stemless gote. It is necessary to understand its structure and mechanical behavior. We will address the mechanical and psychological effect of different third ropes and discuss the adaptation of a chest piece to match the overall shape.

  • Other than torsion, some other iconic patterns will be taught and put in use. Both floorwork and suspensions will be part of the schedule.

  • Each exercise will be used to teach a skill that can be carried over and used in several other ties.

  • Some basic ties may be variated and transformed into new shapes. Variations are didactically skill-oriented, and participants will improve rope and body handling while experimenting with new ties.

PREREQUISITES

The content is designed for:

  • Semenawa Study Group members

  • instructors and assistants who support others in learning and wish to elevate their demonstration work;

  • advanced riggers and models who want to refine the quality of their skills;

  • experienced practitioners who already tie with clean fundamentals, but wish to deepen their sensitivity within the Semenawa style.

Specifics for tops:

  • Solid TK – stemless

  • Smooth and safe suspension lines management

  • Confidence in suspension sessions

Specifics for bottoms:

  • Feeling comfortable being tied in a gote

  • Understanding the difference between comfortable and sustainable, and willingness to explore both

  • Being familiar with the feeling of torsion suspensions

  • Ability to self monitor nerve compression and bloodflow restriction.

Due to the heavy focus on torsions, this workshop may not be suitable for participants with spine-related conditions. We encourage you to make an informed decision based on your own understanding of your body and any relevant health considerations.

INTRODUCTION TO YUKIMURA-RYU I

DAY 1

On the first day, participants will learn about the fundamental philosophical approaches of Yukimura Haruki's tying style. Ropeknight has further developed this  style for the Western spirit, making his own approaches, building blocks and nuance accessible and easy to learn for both beginners and experienced tying couples.

Terms such as Semenawa and Aibunawa will be analyzed, and participants will learn their first basic ties.

The more experienced the tying partner, the more they can focus on the nuances of working with the model.

The introduction of a special mindset, as well as possible approaches and behaviors in the interaction between partners, plays a significant role.

There will be ample opportunity for the further development of both partners' personas and their shared communication.

DAY 2

The ties, techniques and approaches developed on the first day will be used to explore more complex ties. The primary focus will be on evoking emotions through the how of implementing the ties.

FOR WHO?

This workshop is aimed at bondage couples who want to explore the world of Yukimura Ryu together. Since this is ultimately a world of eroticism, there should be no fear of intimacy between the bondage partners.

The workshop can be visited by beginners to advanced participants.

WHAT TO BRING?
