MA – The Erotic Power of “Not Yet”

This workshop was born from a real, personal, and deeply transformative encounter with Haruki Yukimura. Not an encounter built on technique or spectacle, but on silence, waiting, minimal gestures, and suspended time. In those lessons, I - MaestroBD - discovered that the most intense part was not what was being taught, but what was being allowed to happen.

At the heart of this journey lies MA, a concept from Japanese culture that describes the space between things, the time before action, the interval where desire takes shape. MA is not an emptiness to be filled, but a living presence, charged with tension and possibility. It is what makes a gesture erotic, a relationship deep, an encounter unforgettable.

Yukimura did not teach me new ties. He taught me to remove, to slow down, to stop occupying all the space with intention or control. His lessons were often uncomfortable, because they offered no immediate answers, but invited you to stay, to listen, to tolerate the “not yet”. And it was precisely there that desire began to grow.

This workshop is the transmission of that experience. It is not an imitation of a style, but a journey through time, gesture, and relationship, exploring how MA can transform the way we stay in rope and with another person. It is not about doing more, but about making space. Not about anticipation, but about waiting.

MA cannot be taught.

But it can be encountered.

FOR WHO?

This workshop is aimed at bondage couples who have previously attended a "Ropeknights Yukimura Ryu I" workshop and are looking to delve deeper into the world of Yukimura Ryu. Since this is ultimately a world of eroticism, there should be no fear of intimacy between the bondage partners.

WHAT TO BRING?

  • Approx. 5-7 ropes are required - recommended rope: 7 to 8m long, 4-5mm in diameter.

  • Bring a blanket to use as a base.

ABOUT Davide “MaestroBD” La Greca

Davide “MaestroBD” La Greca is an Italian Shibari teacher and author who has been performing, teaching, and researching rope since the early 2000s. Founder of the Italian Shibari Dojo network and a certified instructor in the Yukimura-Ryu tradition, he has brought his work to stages, festivals, and workshops across Europe and beyond. A direct and intimate encounter with Haruki Yukimura profoundly shaped his approach, shifting his focus from technique to time, presence, and subtraction. His teaching explores MA as erotic space, suspended gesture, and relational depth. Through rope, he investigates desire as something that grows when space is respected.

ABOUT Athena Mond Kiki

Athena Mond Kiki is an experienced Shibari model and performer, known for her conscious, grounded, and relational presence. With a long path that blends performance and deep experiential practice, she embodies rope as a space of listening rather than display. In workshops and on stage, her body becomes a threshold where Azukashi, vulnerability, and desire are allowed to emerge without being forced. Her collaboration with MaestroBD is rooted in trust, rhythm, and shared silence, making her an essential presence in exploring MA as lived, erotic experience.

“Performing” Yukimura-Ryu

Yukimura-Ryu is meant to be seen and experienced not just by the people engaging in it, but also by a watching third party. It focuses on the smooth and natural interaction between Bakushi and Ukete as a wide range of emotions, sensuality, eroticism and sexuality is organically expressed. During this process, visually appealing scenes emerge, almost casually, from small, almost imperceptible nudges and interactions between Bakushi and Ukete. If done well, a gripping and intense scene unfolds that, in all its organic lack of predictability, captures not only Ukete, but also the imagination and attention of the audience.

In this workshop, we will search for the core elements in our individual expressions that will be the engine of the scenes we create. We will experiment with different tools to find our theme for a given performance and attempt to integrate an audience into our tying session. We will create a lab-situation which invites experimenting with known techniques and some practices to add different angles to well-known practices to support the students on their journey. The students will receive guidance and feedback on their progress as they develop their own take on the challenge to evoke the “performance” (Engi) of both Bakushi and Ukete to create not just a rope scene, but a tale from a different world

This class will be most advantageous for students who have mastered the general requirements of the Yukimura-Ryu training system. It is important for the participants to have a sound understanding of not just the technical aspects but also have a clear vision of their own motivations, emotional landscapes and the structure of the intimacy they share with their partner.

ABOUT harukumo 春蜘

I started out as an assistant to Osada Steve at Studio SIX from autumn 2005 to summer 2006. I cleaned the studio, welcomed students, prepared snacks and drinks for the kinbaku live performances, coiled up ropes, took pictures and shot videos. During performances in other locations, such as Loft Plus One, I was shooting video and supported Osada Steve as well. I took classes as soon as I could afford them during his workshops in Berlin in 2008. There, I met Vinciens for the first time and we became friends and fellow students of Osada Steve.

In 2011, I was introduced to Yukimura Haruki sensei through Osada Steve. I started taking lessons from Yukimura-sensei, too, and was an interpreter at his workshop in Copenhagen in 2012. In 2013 and 2014, I started to take systematic notes of the lessons and what I was taught during the lessons at Yukimura-sensei’s studio in Ebisu. Those notes turned into the basis for the Yukimura-Ryu-Kyu system that I developed together with Ropeknight and Osada Steve.

ABOUT momoko

I had my first encounter with Shibari back in 2017 and it resonated within me from the start. Over time I went on a journey discovering the emotional depth it provides. When I met Harukumo in 2022 , the moment we had our first Shibari encounter was a watershed. It all fell into place, and it became the basis for an increasingly intimate and close connection. In 2024, I received my name from him as an expression of our DS-relationship. In the same year, I started to also be a model for Shibari workshops and performances with him.

Besides getting tied, I occasionally tie myself and integrate my experience as Ukete into my tying side. I like the wide range of feelings that tying can evoke. I have learned and still keep learning a lot about myself and others on this journey.

A Weekend with RopeKnight & CandyDandelion

INTRODUCTION TO YUKIMURA-RYU I

DAY 1

On the first day, participants will learn about the fundamental philosophical approaches of Yukimura Haruki's tying style. Ropeknight has further developed this  style for the Western spirit, making his own approaches, building blocks and nuance accessible and easy to learn for both beginners and experienced tying couples.

Terms such as Semenawa and Aibunawa will be analyzed, and participants will learn their first basic ties.

The more experienced the tying partner, the more they can focus on the nuances of working with the model.

The introduction of a special mindset, as well as possible approaches and behaviors in the interaction between partners, plays a significant role.

There will be ample opportunity for the further development of both partners' personas and their shared communication.

DAY 2

The ties, techniques and approaches developed on the first day will be used to explore more complex ties. The primary focus will be on evoking emotions through the how of implementing the ties.

FOR WHO?

This workshop is aimed at bondage couples who want to explore the world of Yukimura Ryu together. Since this is ultimately a world of eroticism, there should be no fear of intimacy between the bondage partners.

The workshop can be visited by beginners to advanced participants.

WHAT TO BRING?

  • Models are encouraged to wear clothing with potential for exposure (e.g. no leggings and tights)

  • Approx. 5 ropes are required - recommended rope: 7 to 8m long, 4-5mm in diameter.

ABOUT ROPEKNIGHT

Michael Ropeknight had the opportunity to experience and learn different styles of Shibari during his various trips to Japan.

He studied under several well-known Bakushi and became an official student of Osada Steve, who shortly thereafter introduced him to Yukimura Haruki Sensei.

In the following years, Michael spent a great deal of time with these two masters, studying their techniques and philosophies.

Yukimura Sensei and Osada Steve described his emotional abilities in dealing with his Shibari partners and his use of energetic components (Ki) as extraordinary. Not only because of these exceptional strengths did both masters honor him by appointing him as an official instructor of their styles.

In 2024, Michael decided to retire as an official Osada-Ryu instructor, as physical limitations no longer allowed him to teach suspensions at the highest level. Since then, he has focused on his core competencies: deepened communication and personal development for all participants involved in rope. With this focus on Ropeknight’s Yukimura-Ryu, Michael brings valuable insights into the emotional and mental connection between partners, thus fostering the development of a mindful and conscious dynamic in Shibari.

In recent years, Ropeknight has further developed the Yukimura-Ryu within a Western mindset, making it a cornerstone in the training of rope enthusiasts around the world by incorporating his unique strengths and understanding of the human soul—just as Yukimura Sensei had expected of him.

ABOUT CandyDandelion

CandyDandelion (alter ego Alice in Nawaland on Instagram) was introduced to the art of shibari in 2018 and quickly became enamored with Al-Walthery's skillful sadistic ties. Their partnership has continued to this day, with CandyDandelion teaching alongside Al-Walthery in Liège and Brussels.

She has been featured on stage by renowned riggers including Yoi Yoshida, Marc Akuaku, and Tati Limati and performing together with Al-Walthery at Onawa Asobi festival in Shibari Lounge in 2024.

In 2023, she joins Studio TIEY. She becomes the teaching model for Michael Ropeknight, known for his empathetic, intuitive, and unique approach, and performs with Yagami Ren, who explores the duality between pleasure and pain. She also headlines with Naka sensei in his 2025 Nawa Kai at the studio.

She is highly sought after as a model for both photography and public performances, known for her pure and expressive emotions that she exudes during the intense connections she creates as an ukete. She is open to exploring various contexts, such as nature, underwater settings, abandoned places, workshops, and public sessions.

Yukimura Memorial Night

Experience the captivating world of aibunawa-shibari of the legendary Yukimura Haruki (1948-2016), one of the four Japanese grandmasters. His unique style of bondage, known as aibunawa or caressing rope, is a perfect blend of love and diabolical pleasure. The model may feel an illusional sense of control, but as the ropes tighten, she realizes she is at the mercy of the rigger. And with an audience present, her deepest desires and inner demons are exposed, igniting a fiery passion within her.

Join Harukumo, RopeKnight and MaestroBD—each a licensed Yukimura-ryu instructor—as they honor the original style while adding their own personal touch. Their partners, Momoko, CandyDandelion and Athena Mond Kiki, take each session to new heights with their reactions to their partners’ skilled hands and voice.

Your host for the evening will be Peter Etheros. He will guide us along an attentive and intentional path, as we enter the world of aibunawa.
